In 1987 an 89th MAW crewmember’s child was diagnosed with cancer. Several base agencies responded by starting a Christmas event for children registered as patients at Walter Reed Pediatric Oncology.
By 2014, the event has grown to over ninety families with over 125 children attending the event each year. Hundreds of volunteers work together to assemble entertainment for these children including static displays of a fire truck, ambulance, SWAT van, motorcycles, helicopters, airplanes, a police cruiser, and the Batmobile. Pet therapy dogs, face painting, puppet shows, dance troupes, photo booth, and princess day spa are some of the many events lined up to entertain the guests of honor. At the end of the day, Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive in style to presents gifts to the children donated by local individuals and organizations throughout the Maryland-Virginia-Washington D.C. area.
SES is proud to support an organization giving back to the community and their loved ones. With the support of the Fisher House, the PCFC Holiday Party highlights what is most important during the holidays.
